Marieke Lucas Rijneveld visits Poland

08.08.2022

Marieke Lucas Rijneveld visited the Festival Mountains of Literature in Poland in July 2022.

The Dutch writer Marieke Lucas Rijneveld does not often meet his international readers. In July, however, on the occasion of the Festival Mountains of Literature, they appeared in Poland. On Sunday 17 July, on the fifth day of this unique literary and social event, the meeting with Rijneveld was hosted by Jerzy Koch. It was about both their first book De avond is ongemak (The Discomfort of Evening, winner of the International Booker Prize 2020, translated into Polish by Jerzy Koch), their inspirations, dreams and the second novel, which will be published in Polish in September 2022. After the interview, Rijneveld met with their readers and signed books (including some copies for local school libraries). Rijneveld is very popular not only in Poland (where the controversy over their non-binariness has sometimes been a topic of discussion), but also in other countries. You can read about the reception of their first novel in Romania and Serbia on our website.
