Dutch Literature in English-speaking Countries

Whereas sixty percent of the world’s translated books are from English, only three percent of books published in English each year are translations. Of these, only a handful are from Dutch. On this page, we spotlight some key translators and publishers who bridge the Dutch and Anglo-American literary worlds. We explore prescient case studies of authors and works from Dutch literature that beat the odds, finding publishers, readers and acclaim in English. Finally, we consolidate academic literature on the production and reception of Dutch literature in English-speaking countries.
